Who Are Your Personal Saints?

“Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you; consider how their lives ended, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching.” -Hebrews 13:7-9a

The scripture reading from morning prayer today is a wonderful reminder to me to look always to my role models and the one who inspired their lives even unto their deaths. Of course I am speaking of the official saints like St John Vianney, whose feast we celebrate today, but also of the ordinary saints who have passed from our earthly lives like my father in law Joe Maggio and my aunt Sr. Mary Ermina. I also look to the holy ones who I still have the joy of having in my life like my own parents who “talk the talk” and “walk the walk” every day. These are just a few of the people who have helped me to follow the way of love in my life.

Take a moment to pray for your personal saints today and ask them to intercede for you so that we may one day be united in spirit and truth before the throne of God in heaven.
