Connecting Flights and Other Things

It is 2:27 AM and I can’t sleep. We have about. 7 and 1/2 hour left on this leg of our journey which puts us in Istanbul. We have almost cleared the North American continent but not quite as we are just passing over Labrador.

So far the trip has been smooth, unless you think it was a problem that Gregg and Joan got stuck in a revolving door at O’Hare.

Something else happened at terminal 5 in Chicago. Our departure gate was changed to gate 13. Oh, bad luck! Maybe not. We left from gate 13 on May 13th which was the 95th anniversary of the first apparition of the Blessed Mother to the 3 children in Fatima. Was it just a random coincidence? Probably, but the fact that my thoughts were drawn to notice it was not. It is also not lost on me that we are flying to a Muslim country as I contemplate Fatima, a community named for the daughter of the prophet. I know what you’re thinking but go easy on me. After all it is pretty late.

Anyway it gives me great comfort to see threads connecting us across the years, across the continents, across religions, and between earth and heaven itself. Our lady of Fatima, intercede for us as we seek to do the will of your son.
