Advice to Homilists

Advice to homilists ‘If you want me to speak for an hour, I’m ready. If you want me to speak for 10 minutes, I’ll need a week” -Archbishop Fulton Sheen

The sacred Word is powerful and alive and deserves to be treated as such in the preparation for preaching a homily. God can work fantastically through a homilist if he gives himself over to prayer and study. But a message needs to be tailored to the listening community as well as being meaningful and theologically sound. Attention spans are not what they used to be and a good homilist keeps that in mind.

I’ll be preaching at the end of the month. Come and listen. Celebrate and break open the scriptures with us! Feel free to bring a stop watch, index card, and a pencil.
